Thursday Thirteen: Rambling twitter style

I just realized that the "official" Thursday Thirteen hub is no longer with us. It's been that long since I participated. That is sad, I enjoyed being part of that crowd.

But I'll still keep up with it here when I can, it helps when I have nothing else to write.

1/ Finally booked my first physio apppointment. Why did I drag my heels (well, my knee) so long? I guess I was waiting for it to get worse.

2/ Oh and it did when the klutz at Walmart smashed her cart into the same exact place on my knee.

3/ Why did I think that trying to roast a red pepper on top of my gas range was a good idea?

4/ Trying not to think about how gross my keyboard is.

5/ I hope we do get some spring this year before it becomes 30 deg C in about a week. And they call this the Great White North?

6/ My hair is turning unintentionally orange. I know peach/coral is hot for spring but I'm not feeling it.

7/ My son played with my muffin top peeking over my low-risers the other day. Cute or mildly horrific?

8/ I still need a light in the kitchen. I'm also a broken record.

9/ I paid $2 extra for my free Tim Horton's coffee and a donut. (Yes, I managed to win something under my rim. Horseshoes up my whoo-hoo, folks, horseshoes. )

9a/ It's called the new math, or "I can't believe she gave me the wrong change, I figured it out after I drove off and I hate drive-throughs".

9b/I considered putting the car on park in front of 20 others and risking my life to get that $2 back. Yeah, I'm cheap too.

10/ I think I have a shopping disorder. Don't tell my husband I told you this.

11/ I need more Lululemons. The gym's on hiatus, but I need help keeping this ass at least looking halfway normal.

12/ Most annoying sound on earth? This:

being driven around on porcelain tiles. For hours on end.

13/ I'm looking forward to watching "In the Motherhood" tonight. Wish me luck wrestling the remote away from the kids.

Follow me on twitter here.

Cougar moment

If you've been following my blog for a while, you'll know that I have this insane love for Lipstick Jungle. I don't know what it is, but I was hooked from the get go. Likely because it has a beautiful cast, in particular a couple of gorgeous women of a certain age ... heck, their lives and careers are unreal. They are strong, successful women but of course total messes in their personal lives. But I think that's the fun of it.

Okay, I'll admit it. Another main draw for me was a certain actor, who was hugely popular and one of my celebrity crushes back in the 80's. I even talked myself into thinking that the hubs, at one time, even sort of looked like him for half a millisecond. Maybe it was the mullet.

But then watching the first season, there was someone else by the name of Robert Buckley, who just can't seem to keep his shirt on...(lucky Nico)

Season 2 has just got off to a rip-roaring start. Maybe it's just me, but the writing and storylines seem to have gotten better.

But gaaah, you got me again. I've never really been that into Latin men, but let me tell you, if we do renovate the rest of the house, I wouldn't mind this guy for MY contractor...

Thursday Thirteen

So the secret to being a successful Stay At Home/Work At Home mom is the schedule, correct?

By George, I think she's got it after three years! This lacksidasical, flexi-mom schedule just doesn't cut it anymore. Let's hop to it!

Tuesday To Do List:

1. Make breakfast and lunch for big boy – Check
2. Make coffee for big girl and bigger boy, get the girlie her breakfast- Check
3. Book birthday party for big boy - Check
4. Bring girlie to preschool, spend 10 minutes prying her off of me while she cries and pulls at me... rush home before having to pick her up again in less than 2 hours– Check
5. Have conference call with client – Check
6. Prepare business profile – Half check
7. Set up the life schedule that should have been set up about 3 years ago – Huh?
8. Pick up girlie and go to supermarket for ingredients for dinner – Check
9. Add chocolate bunny sucker for whining girlie while picking up said ingredients –Check
10.Make lunch for big girl and girlie – Check
11. Clean up family room and try to engage girlie in this activity – Check
12.Pick up big boy for dental appointment– Check
13. Quick stop at Zellers to check for Bakugan as big boy was so good at the dentist; no luck, but kids dilly-dally anyway. Rush home to get dinner in oven - shoot, it's late! – Check

13a. Make an appointment in a schedule to set up the life schedule that should have been set up 3 years ago.

And it's now Thursday.

Oh my crap.

Will winter end?

Here I am sitting, listening to the wind and the hail/snow showering my window. Kids are asleep, have been for over 3 hours (wow, I'm good... maybe because their Dad's away and there are no shenanagins when Mom puts them to bed). I always get to bed so late when Ian's away on business. I'm a night owl anyway, but it always takes me longer, my bedroom seems cold and lonely.

We're expecting another huge dump of snow tomorrow, could be another snow day.

It's times like these that I'm so glad I will not have to deal with a morning commute. And I feel better about the man not having to deal with his drive to work. I think I'll make him feel better by sending him a message about the drive he doesn't have to endure tomorrow. Hopefully he'll receive it as he's enjoying his moules et frites in Brussels.

Spring, quit with the teasing and just get here already, 'kay?

It beckoned this morning...

and I succumbed.

Oh mighty Egg McMuffin, the power you wield.

After I dropped little G off at her preschool program, I stopped at Wal Mart to pick up some groceries and Valentine paraphernalia. There's a handy, dandy McD's there.

And for that, I worked extra hard at my workout tonight.

So now I'm off to have my apple pie and ice cream.

I think I need an intervention.

Manic Monday: Heart

Valentine's Day highlights for me throughout the years:
  • when I was a little kid and would look forward to Valentine's Day for the expressions of love during the February popularity contest. Thank goodness nowadays you get a class list.
  • receiving my first dozen roses as a pre-teen from my "first" boyfriend (he wore safety pins down both sides of his jeans, how cool was that!);
  • receiving roses from admirers during homeroom in senior year; and not just from a boyfriend, but also friendship roses.
  • perhaps my first Valentine's Day with my hubby as a boyfriend; but that was eons ago, and more likely I was just thrilled to be spending the time with him during the long distance part of the relationship.
  • a bouquet of roses sent by hubby to me at the office. But that was more to impress the girls; or perhaps because we had had a fight.

See how much the actual Valentine's occasion really means to me? It's just such a commercial Hallmark occasion. I even made the mistake of starting to get the kids Valentine's Day presents the last couple of years and to what end? Just more clutter in the house. No, I don't think we'll keep that tradition up, although the timing of the Wii might certainly qualify.

Other than fulfilling the annual tradition for our kids and their classmates, we don't partake in the festivities as a couple. I'd prefer to celebrate our relationship throughout the year, when it's convenient for us and we don't have to battle the crowds at the restaurants. So sentimental, I am. Just wear my heart on my sleeve.

Random heart music references just in time for Valentine's week:

Heart - Anne and Nancy Wilson. Loved the hair, and I still think to this day, Annie has the best rock-chick voice ever. Barracuda, Dreamboat Annie, Crazy On You...now that was classic rock.

Heart-shaped box - Nirvana. Creepy video. Haunting song.

Heart of Glass - Blondie. Disco ruled.

Groove is in the Heart - Dee-Lite. Dig.

Heartbreaker - Don't you mess around with me. Toughie Pat Benatar.

Secret Heart - Feist, as written by Ron Sexsmith. Love her version. Too bad it was the year of Amy and she took all the Grammys last night. Feist will have her time.
