Confessions of a Maddict
I haven't been the biggest fan of Saturday Night Live during the last few years (primarily because I can barely keep my eyes open past 11 PM anymore these days). However, I have recently been drawn, like millions of others, to the bang-on impersonations by Tina Fey of the ubiquitous Sarah Palin.
So imagine my excitement when I noticed that Jon Hamm, the number one man on my favourite new TV series, was to host this past Saturday's episode. With a bonus -- COLDPLAY was the musical guest.
Made the weekend an event. Oh I know, I really need to get a life.
Here is my favourite part of the show, and for those of you who do not watch Mad Men on a regular basis, I think you'll still enjoy it.
Methinks that performing this skit with Jon/Don probably sent Amy Poehler into labour.
Coldplay's performance didn't really blow me away; I think Chris Martin's frenetic performance and lack of continual contact with the mike didn't help. They may be more suited to larger venues these days. Still, it was a treat to see them 'live'.
But you know what nearly sent me over the edge? Last night was the finale of the second season of Mad Men. And was it ever a fully loaded episode. There's the backdrop of the Cuban Missile Crisis; a company merger; confessions; unwanted pregnancy; continued marital woes; one night stands ... and just when I thought it was all over for our philandering protagonist's marriage, he goes and writes his estranged wife a love letter. Here is an excerpt:
" I understand why you want to go on without me, and I know you won't be alone for very long. But, without you, I'll be alone forever. I love you, Don."
Oh. My. God.
Swoon... these writers, boy they've got marketers pegged.
Hey, I'm married to a marketer! Hmmmm.
I cannot WAIT for Season Three to begin.

Won't give up my day job
Don't get me wrong, I'm really enjoying what I'm doing, the chance to use my skills in a more productive fashion. The opportunity to put on a suit and real heels. Volunteering at G's kindergarten class is certainly rewarding but after so many years at the school, I can still barely figure out how to make 120 double-sided copy booklets without chewing up a dozen sheets and jamming the photocopier twice.
Working from home is really the best arrangement, and this was always the plan. But rushing around my suburban neighbourhood the last little while, absorbing the sights and sounds of ...
well, not much really, except other mini-driving moms on the road chauffeuring their kids back and forth, doing the groceries, loading up at the newest Costco that just opened up ...
So it was only natural that a few recent observations seemed to link up in some cosmic fashion that suggested a potential second vocation for me.
Numero uno: Aradia fitness - this pole-dancing studio opened up not far from me a while ago, and I pass by it on a daily basis.
La deuxieme: I had to pick up some milk early on the weekend and made a quick drive to the Walmart. What did I see there at 9 AM on a Saturday morning? A girl walking into the store on the arm of her boyfriend, wearing these beauties:
The third sign: The stripper dip move in Bodyjam release 34, performed to Gwen Stefani's "Rich Girl" , which I am trying to perfect.
Stop laughing, I'm really getting there. Just ask Hubby, who happened to pop into the gym studio briefly on the weekend and watch approvingly while I was gyrating to Sean Paul...
(basement parties I've been to have never been that fun ...)
Wow, to be young, hot, able to dance like that and hold the power.
But as I sit here on my 40-something ass, having my coffee after downing a couple of Ibuprofen to combat the aching hips that almost hip-hopped- out at last night's workout, I've decided. I should just get back into my home office, to the data and mounds of paper that await.

Super Random Saturday
so my brain doesn't have to work so hard. Not that it ever does, most days, at least it feels that way. Should be interesting when I start to do some work in the fall...
Hubby is off for a few weeks; we'll see if he can stick to it and not check his crackberry overly much in the next little while. Perhaps if I just keep the kids after him round-the-clock that might do the trick.
I'm not great at these random thingy's, usually trying to carefully craft each post with brilliant precision (stop laughing), but it's Saturday morning, and this is what I feel like.
For breakfast:
Yes, Japanese pound cake from a Chinese bakery, likely made with pure lard.
Perfectly healthy, while I make my girl eat this:
Let's hope she manages to get a few flakes down without acting like I'm force feeding her fish food (but I suppose that's what they sort of look like). We don't want the drama of "Constipation the Miniseries" that happened earlier this week to go into reruns.
Other news on the girl front, well, here's her new sleeping buddy. (Never understood why anyone would think a RAT would be good stuffed animal material, but then I suppose my daughter is just that market...)
Hopefully her taste in sleeping partners improves with age.
This is the worst time for me to be having that type of breakfast, but I'm hangover free after a night imbibing 4 mojitos and fistfuls of Lays potato chips. I suppose this is what happens when I'm suffering from Bodyjam withdrawal. Not going to gym = pig out on all the junk in the house.
Yes folks, because I went a bit overboard on the last couple of sessions at the gym, my back feels like I've been playing...
24/7 for about a week. I'm forgetting that I don't have a 20-year old body anymore. It's fun to play with the 20 year olds, but the body is good at reminding me that it ain't all that any longer. Oy.
What will we be doing on vacay? Not a whole heck of a lot. A few day trips with the kids, stuff around the house, we still need to get the kitchen finally, finally finished because in addition to more Cowbell, we need a light in here....

And a garage sale is likely in order ... ugh...
I'll still be around, but likely posting sporadically (I know you don't believe me, but I'll give it a try, honestly I will!)
Have a great Saturday!

A Six-Pack sorta meme
The rules of the game get posted at the beginning. Each player answers the questions about themselves. At the end of the post, the player then tags 6 people and posts their names, then goes to their blogs and leaves them a comment, letting them know they’ve been tagged and asking them to read your blog.Let the person who tagged you know when you’ve posted your answer.
What was I doing 10 years ago?
1) enjoying married life
2) living in our first purchased home in the city
3) trying to get pregnant

5) working in an office that had an actual door
6) shopping (I'm bad)
What are 6 things on my to-do list for today (yesterday - i-net troubles):
1) go to the gym for a much needed Bodyjam class;

2) potato chips
3) pistachios

6) Edemame
Things I would do if I were a billionaire?

3) set aside for the kids education
4) invest some
5) give to charity (health charities, and probably sponsor some more kids through Plan Canada
6) travel and buy vacation property(ies)
7) oh, and of course SHOP!!!
Places I have lived?
-Montreal
-Toronto area (snooze ...)
How did you name your blog?
I thought I would start a blog, one sunny day while at home breastfeeding the girl (she was about 5 months old) and enjoying being with her and the boy at home. It was meant to be more of an online journal, because I know as I age I WILL forget all the cute and memorable moments unless I capture them somewhere. And at first I told NOBODY about it. When I told my brother he laughed, and said it was meant to be shared. I'm just such a shy-pie. Now I'm a total comment whore.
So that's how "A Day in the Life" started. I added "one glass at a time" after I joined the esteemed Weekend Bloghoppers earlier in the year. Wanted to spice up my blog personality a bit. But I doubt if I've fooled anyone.
Who am I tagging and do I want to know more about ?
So many to tag, so little time ... if you're not meme type people, or you've already done this, please ignore the tag...
1/ Karen at Rocking Pony
2/ Mah-meeee at Raising A & C
3/ Laskigal From the Cheap Seats
4/ Caffeine Court
5/ Zoe's Dad Ed
6/ I'm Being Held Hostage - In the Gutter
And anyone else, if you haven't done this already, please feel free to do it. Or tuck it away for a rainy "what to blog about" day!

It's in the bag
I'm a self-professed girlie and I love to buy bags. Over spring break I stalked this poor girl all over Winners waiting for her to put this down:
But then I leave my finds in the closet, much to the chagrin of the man. I think if I were working out the home right now I would rotate them a little more, but as it is, quick and easy and hands-free works best.
Health and Beauty: Love lipstick. Shiny face. Sahara hands. Mother of Band-aid junkie. Girlie pigtail bands for impromptu hair play.
Souvenirs (packrat section): Straws to pre-empt spills, used ROM tickets, list of cool music written for us by the hostess at the Park Hyatt Restaurant - because we don't get out much...
Entertainment: Dora stickers, Nintendo DS, McD's Happy Meal magnifier, cereal bars, lollipops, balloon. Sheesh.
The ubiquitous Purell that should accompany any responsible mother? Sitting on my jewelry box ... good place for it.
Lest you think that I travel lightly, here's what's usually attached to my left hand:
What Winnie and Friends carry is another story.

Grunge Monday
And he said, "Yeah, they're cool, they remind me of ....

Is that a compliment?
I suppose I should take what I can get.
(Really, this was just an excuse to include one of my favourite performances from an artist gone too soon... )
